In the third preseason game, the Philadelphia Eagles had a poor offensive showing being unable to score a single point in the contest falling 5-0 to the Cleveland Browns, which drew plenty of criticism from Doug Pederson. It had been interpreted that he had a fair level of disappointment with the play of quarterback Nick Foles in the contest that Erin Andrews of Fox reported after halftime.
However, Pederson has been quick to refute that but stating after the game that it was directed to the team entirely as an offense with their porous play on Thursday night, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
“Not Nick,” Pederson said in response to a question about the report delivered by Erin Andrews of FOX. “Offensively. We had six possessions. We had two interceptions, two fumbles. We had a sack safety, and we had a turnover on downs. That’s an offensive performance, so I was displeased with what our first offense executed. . . . I’m disappointed in the offense. I don’t want to single out one player, so don’t put this all on Nick. I’m disappointed in the offense. It’s obviously not what you want in the third preseason week.”
Aside from the defense giving up just a field goal in the loss, there was plenty of discouraging things to take away from the Eagles disappointing play offensively. It just so happen to be that Foles was at the center of it all as he completed 13 of 17 passes for 127 yards but threw a pair of interceptions while he was sacked in the end zone for a safety and lost a fumble.
His play wasn't encouraging to say the least as he's expected to step into the fray once again if Pro Bowler Carson Wentz is unable to give it a go for the season opener. There is still one more preseason game for the team to move forward with some promising play into the regular season.
For the time being, the focus will be on the first-team offense making improvements to put points on the board.
