The Philadelphia Eagles may not be all that enamored with their new defensive end, Michael Bennett, anymore. Why? It appears that at some time in the near future they are going to lose him to a suspension for shoving a senior after Super Bowl 51.

Of course, they are not going to say anything directly related to the incident at this time. The only official word from the team is exactly what you’d expect it to be.

Via Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio:

“We are aware of the situation involving Michael Bennett and are in the process of gathering more information. Because this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”

The incident occurred at NRG Stadium after Super Bowl 52. Bennett was in attendance to watch his brother, New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett, play. After the game, he tried to gain access to the field to celebrate but was told to use another entrance.

Instead of complying he shoved his way past security which included a 66-year-old paraplegic woman. She suffered a sprained shoulder in the process.

The charge of knowingly causing injury to the elderly can carry a sentence up to 10-years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Bennett will not get the book thrown at him, but the comment he made at the time, is not going to help his case (ESPN):

“You all must know who I am, and I can own this m—–f—–. I'm going down to the field, whether you like it or not.”

An arrest warrant has been issued, and Bennett will be surrendering to authorities when he returns to the country.

Part of the fallout that will be interesting to see will be how or if this incident affects Bennett’s trade to the Eagles. If the trade ends up being rescinded, will the Seahawks bother holding onto him?

Fans will just have to wait and see.
