After leading the Philadelphia Eagles to the franchise's first Super Bowl title, quarterback Nick Foles was thought to be a hot commodity during the NFL offseason. The consensus seemed to be that the Eagles would field trade offers for the veteran quarterback with teams getting a glimpse of what he can still do as a starter.
However, the team didn't trade Foles and instead reworked his contract. Foles is now playing on an incentive-laden deal which he appears to be more than happy with even though he'll be backing up rising star, Carson Wentz. Foles recently talked about his situation in Philadelphia and how he loves the fact he'll be with the Eagles for at least one more season. “They had me under contract this year. Everyone wanted to know where I was going to be. I’m grateful to be a part of it. They restructured my deal. They wanted me there. I wanted to be there this year. We’ll see what happens after the season, but I’m excited about this 2018 Eagles season. I get to wear that jersey at least one more year, and I’m super excited about wearing it one more year.”
With the Eagles talented on both sides of the football and confident in their team moving forward, Philadelphia's brass didn't feel the urgency to trade Foles with his value being as high as ever. Keeping him in the fold after dealing with Wentz's injury is likely the smart move for the Eagles as they secure the position in the event their young quarterback has a setback.
Last season, Foles played in started in seven of the nine games he played finishing with 537 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions. During the playoffs, the veteran gunslinger took his game to the next level with 971 yards, six touchdowns, and only one interception to go along with three rushing touchdowns.
