The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to exercise the $20 million option on Nick Foles' contract, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

This does not come as a surprise and it hardly means that Foles will be back with the Eagles next season, but it does open up a couple of interesting options for both sides.

Foles can buy out the option by paying the Eagles $2 million, which would then make the quarterback an unrestricted free agent. However, if Foles does that, the Eagles can then place a franchise tag (which would be about $25 million) and then trade him.

Or, Foles won't buy out his option and Philadelphia can simply trade him as is with the $20 million salary for next year attached.

Regardless, it is almost a given that Foles will be playing elsewhere in 2019, with teams such as the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins mentioned as possible landing spots for the Philly legend.

The 30-year-old led the Eagles to their first ever Super Bowl championship last year, filling in for Carson Wentz late in the season after Wentz tore his ACL in the middle of an MVP-caliber campaign. Foles then led the Eagles through the playoffs and to a victory over the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Then, this season, Wentz went down again late in the year, this time with a back injury. Once again, Foles stepped in, leading Philadelphia to the postseason and guiding the team to an upset win over the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card Round.

However, the Eagles then fell to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round a week later.
