On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles decided that they will not use their franchise tag on quarterback Nick Foles after much speculation that they would.

The Eagles are allowing Foles to test the free agent market, and he'll likely get plenty of offers after his success over the last two seasons. Foles is arguably the best quarterback on the Eagles' roster given his postseason resume, but it looks like they have ultimately decided to go with the younger option in Carson Wentz.

Although Foles has been a fantastic leader for the Eagles when Wentz has been out with injuries the last two seasons, it would be a bit unheard of for a team to use their franchise tag on a backup quarterback.

Foles' name has been attached to the Jacksonville Jaguars in recent months, and it's obvious the team needs a quality quarterback of their own. With current Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles never being able to reach expectations, it's clear the team is getting ready to move on completely. Foles could be the player to turn the Jaguars' 2018 misfortunes around after an extremely impressive 2017 season.

The Eagles are ultimately losing out on a fantastic talent in Foles, but the team owes it to him to go be a starter elsewhere rather than a backup each season to Wentz. It will be interesting to see who offers Foles a deal and exactly what kind of deal he is offered at the age of 30. There are likely plenty of suitors for a seasoned veteran who can play at an elite level under center.
