There has been plenty of speculation regarding the state of the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback situation. As a result, head coach Doug Pederson has had to reiterate his faith in quarterback Carson Wentz.

The Eagles have been forced to roll with quarterback Nick Foles to finish out the 2018 NFL season. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Pederson says Wentz is still the franchise quarterback:

“I can stand here and say that Carson is our quarterback,” Pederson told reporters on Friday. “He’s our quarterback in the future. That’s why we drafted him. It’s also why we have Nick here as a backup, as a veteran player to — I don’t want to say bail us out, but to come in and execute the offense. I think we just continue to reconfirm that with Carson and let him know that. Continue to say, ‘Hey, listen you’re going to be here for a long time, have a long career.’ We just have to commit to that and communicate that to him and let that kind of sink in.”

Pederson's comments should come as no surprise. He has been adamant about Wentz's status as the franchise quarterback ever since he was forced to miss time last season. However, he now finds himself in the same position as he was in last year which has led to some concern about the near future.

Although Wentz has easily established himself as one of the most promising, young quarterbacks in the NFL, he has also been a bit injury prone thus far. As a result, he has left much to be desired on the field. He is now slated to miss the final stretch of the season and potentially playoffs for the second year in a row.

Meanwhile, Foles has stepped up once again as a viable option. He has already proven to be a bonafide championship quarterback after leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory last year. This has raised questions whether or not Philadelphia has already found the right man for the job. Regardless, it is clear that Wentz will remain the franchise quarterback for the near future.
