The Philadelphia Eagles may have acquired running back Jordan Howard in a trade with the Chicago Bears last month, but that does not mean that they are done trying to improve their backfield.
According to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio, the Eagles will be meeting with University of Alabama running back Josh Jacobs this week.
Taking running backs in the draft is not something to which Philadelphia is accustomed.
The Eagles have not drafted a halfback before the fourth round since taking LeSean McCoy back in 2009, and going back much further than that, Philly has not used a first-round draft choice on a running back since going with Keith Byars all the way back in 1986.
But, with the Eagles ranking just 26th in the league in rushing offense this past season, they may feel that desperate times call for desperate measures.
Jacobs was not incredibly productive during his three-year stint with the Crimson Tide, but he was solid.
During his final collegiate season this past year, Jacobs rushed for 640 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. In addition, he hauled in 20 receptions for 247 yards and three scores.
He arrived at Alabama in 2016, and during his freshman campaign, he totaled 567 yards while reaching the end zone four times on the ground, registering 6.7 yards per attempt.
Jacobs' least productive year came during his sophomore season, when he finished with 284 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won nine games.
They went on to defeat the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before falling to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round.
