The Pittsburgh Steelers are in an odd position right now with the new football year approaching. Their roster is good enough to compete, but it's unclear whether or not they are true competitors. For that reason, we look at two of the best offseason moves the Steelers can make to put the roster over the top.
Ben Roethlisberger has finally stepped down from the starting quarterback position, allowing Pittsburgh to address that role. The front office brought in Mitchell Trubisky through free agency and drafted Kenny Pickett. This franchise will see what each of them brings to the table and are likely to stick with these two. However, if the Steelers plan to put the roster over the top, then upgrading this position is a must.
Another area of concern is the offensive line. It'll be difficult for Pittsburgh to make any more upgrades this late in the offseason, but with the right trade package, anything is possible. After watching the Steelers struggle within the trenches, the front office might have to consider making a deal.
With that said, here are two big offseason moves the Steelers must make to put the roster over the top.

Steelers' Best Offseason Moves
Improve QB Position
Okay, first of all, it's not likely the Steelers seek to improve this position at all. The coaching staff is going to give Kenny Pickett every chance possible to develop and eventually take over as the starter. Meanwhile, Mitchell Trubisky is lined up to be the starting option to start the season and could prove to be a solid acquisition from this offseason.
Article Continues BelowFor the sake of this idea though, Pittsburgh would have to address the quarterback situation if they hope to be viewed as a legitimate threat in the AFC North. The front office could shell out a haul of draft picks and players to land a superstar-caliber quarterback to lead the way, but it would possibly jeopardize the rest of the roster. There aren't many quarterbacks the Steelers could target via trade, but we've seen some wild deals pulled off this year.
There was a moment earlier in the offseason when the Steelers may have conducted a trade. Rumors swirled around Kyler Murray's displeasure, nobody knew what Aaron Rodgers was going to do, and of course, there was the Deshaun Watson debacle. Nothing is impossible so if Pittsburgh REALLY wanted to upgrade the quarterback position they could.
Trade For Big-Name Offensive Lineman
So this is a bit more realistic, but will be difficult to pull off. The Steelers did a decent job to fix the offensive line last year which should help the offense. Additionally, both Trubisky and Pickett are substantially more mobile than Roethlisberger, so that should help decrease the sack number too. Even so, the Steelers could still use a boost in the trenches to put the roster over the top.
Considering the 2022 season is right around the corner, a trade would be difficult to accomplish. Most teams have their rosters set and will only make moves if they're detrimental. Regardless, the Steelers could shock the league with a massive trade, as at least one top-left tackle in the NFL isn't happy with his current ball club.
On Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs failed to sign Orlando Brown to a long-term deal. As of now, he's lined up to play on the franchise tag, which isn't ideal for him or the franchise. There is a window of opportunity for the Steelers to sneak in and offer a big trade package to bring Brown to Pittsburgh. It would be incredibly hard to accomplish, but if this organization wants to increase its chances of going on a deep playoff run, the front office must consider all options.
