Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Anthony Chickillo has been placed on the commissioner's exempt list, according to the team.
Chickillo was arrested this past Sunday due to a disturbance between him and his girlfriend.
The 26-year-old allegedly got into a verbal argument with the woman at a casino in a Pennsylvania hotel. The couple then returned to their room before documents say things turned physical, where Chickillo allegedly forced his girlfriend against the wall and threw her to the ground, smashing her iPhone.
The criminal complaint then states that the woman locked herself in the bathroom and waited for authorities to arrive. Police said that she had “visible redness to both her right and left bicep areas, with bruising beginning to form,” per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com.
Chickillo, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami, was originally selected by the Steelers in the sixth round (212th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.
He has primarily served in a backup role since then, with his most productive season coming in 2016 when he logged 24 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a couple of forced fumbles.
The Tampa, Fl. native has played in just three games this season, tallying one tackle and a half of a sack.
Pittsburgh has gotten off to a 2-4 start this season, most recently defeating the Los Angeles Chargers by a score of 24-17 on Oct. 13.
The Steelers are coming off of a bye week and will play host to the lowly Miami Dolphins on Monday night. They will then take on the Indianapolis Colts at home on Nov. 3.
