If the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to beat the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, they may have to do it without one of their top offensive players.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, running back James Conner is listed as doubtful to play in his team's Week 9 tilt as a result of a shoulder injury. He has not practiced all week.
Conner suffered the AC joint injury during the Steelers' win over the Miami Dolphins last Monday and left the game. He had carried the ball 23 times for 145 yards and a touchdown before exiting.
On the season overall, Conner has rushed for 380 yards and four scores while averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. In addition, he has logged 29 catches for 236 yards and a couple of touchdowns.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was originally selected by the Steelers in the third round (105th pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Due to the presence of Le'Veon Bell, Conner's playing time during his rookie campaign was limited, as he totaled just 144 yards on the ground.
However, last season, Conner received a much bigger opportunity as a result of Bell's year-long holdout, registering 973 yards and 12 touchdowns while recording 4.5 yards per attempt. He also caught 55 passes for 497 yards and a score, making the Pro Bowl.
Even so, injuries limited Conner to 13 games last year, so he has had some difficulty staying healthy thus far in his young NFL career.
Pittsburgh is currently 3-4 and desperately needs a win to stay alive in the AFC playoff picture.
