The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting some good news about the health of one of their running backs. Tailback Jaylen Warren is likely to play in the team's next game against the Minnesota Vikings, per ESPN. Warren is dealing with a knee injury.
The Steelers are traveling to Ireland to play the Vikings in Dublin. It is one of several international games set for this NFL season. Pittsburgh is 2-1 on the year, while the Vikings hold the same record.
This season, Warren has 132 rushing yards on 43 carries. Even though Warren is expected to play, the Steelers are likely to limit his carries against Minnesota.
“Steelers also elevated (running back) Trey Sermon today from their practice squad,”Adam Schefter posted Saturday on X, formerly Twitter.
Pittsburgh and Minnesota play Sunday at 9:30 am ET.
Steelers hope to pick up a big win in Dublin
Pittsburgh has big expectations this season. The team is led by a new quarterback, in veteran Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is one of several new faces in the Steel City hoping to lead the team to a run in the AFC Playoffs.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is under fire from fans for not winning more playoff games. He is expected to shake off that challenge this year. While defeating the Vikings surely doesn't guarantee a playoff spot, it would build some momentum for this Pittsburgh team.
Pittsburgh's lone loss this season is to the Seattle Seahawks. The Steelers have had some struggles on offense. The squad managed just 203 yards of total offense in their last game, a win against the New England Patriots.
“(At) 14-0 we’re feeling pretty good about ourselves. We hadn’t been ahead by two scores yet,” Rodgers said after that game, per the Associated Press. “I just didn’t play great. We just kind of lost our rhythm, had too many penalties, negative yardage plays and didn’t make them pay when we had opportunities.”
Pittsburgh relied on their defense to post that victory. In that contest, the defense forced five turnovers. That included four fumbles that the Patriots committed.
Time will tell if Pittsburgh can pick up a win over the Vikings.
