Joe Haden has been one of the Pittsburgh Steelers' most reliable players since the team picked off the scrap heap following his shocking release by the Cleveland Browns in August 2017. Now that the three-year, $27 million contract he subsequently signed with Pittsburgh is about to expire, both parties would prefer to work out a new deal before Haden has the opportunity to become a free agent next spring. One problem: They're apparently a long way from finding common ground in negotiations.

As Haden's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Dale Lolley of DK Pittsburgh Sports, “nothing is happening” on contract talks with the Steelers.

But Haden's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told me nothing is happening at this time on the new contract front. Given that July is now upon us, that means nothing is likely to happen with a new contract for Haden until training camp opens July 25.

Haden will earn $10 million in 2019, the final season of his existing contract. According to DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh hopes to sign him to a new deal that decreases his cap hit from $11.9 million this season and locks him up at a more reasonable salary long-term.

The No. 7 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, Haden quickly established himself as one football's premier cover men with the Cleveland Browns. He had six interceptions as a rookie, and was named to the Pro Bowl in both 2013 and 2014. Though no longer as disruptive as he was early in his career, the 30-year-old remains a viable starter for a Steelers team in a major state of transition.
