Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the rumors that he could be a frontrunner for the Washington Redskins job, and it wasn't something he was too interested in talking about. Tomlin pointed out that he was currently a coach of a 1-4 football team, so he doesn't have much time to worry about things outside of the Steelers organization.
Tomlin asked about being a preferred candidate for the Redskins job:
“I'm the head coach of a 1-4 football team that's going on the road to play a Hall of Fame quarterback with a third-string quarterback. Do you think I'm worried about anything other than that?”

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, Dan Snyder has Tomlin on the top of his list for coaches he would like to take over after Jay Gruden was fired.

Tomlin is still under contract with the Steelers, so as Tim Benz of triblive.com points out, it would take a trade to get him to Washington.
Tomlin’s contract in Pittsburgh lasts through 2021 with a club option for the 2022 season. So any discussion surrounding the potential of the Redskins bringing Tomlin to D.C. would involve compensation back to the Steelers.
If you want a comparison, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave the Oakland Raiders their 2002 and 2003 first-round draft picks, 2002 and 2004 second-round draft picks, and $8 million in cash to get Jon Gruden (Jay’s older brother).
There is always a chance that the Steelers would fire Tomlin after the season and then the Redskins wouldn't have to give them any compensation, but it's hard to imagine if the Redskins really want him, the Steelers are going to let him walk for free.
