It doesn't look like there will be a sequel to Deflategate after all. After looking into what appeared to be a deflated football used by the Pittsburgh Steelers in their preseason opener, NFL Vice President of Football Communications Michael Signora has released a statement on the findings of their investigation (per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network).

“All footballs were in compliance with NFL rules following the pregame inspection process & all proper procedures were followed. In the 3Q, a football that was found to be defective was removed from play, will be sent back to Wilson for review.”

According to Howard Eskin of WIP, the NFL was investigating the Steelers after their use of a deflated football during the third quarter of their preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eskin, who was working as the sideline reporter on the Eagles’ broadcast during the game, said the aforementioned football was “like a marshmallow.”

The issue of deflated footballs came to the fore in the infamous “Deflategate” saga during the 2015 AFC Championship Game between the Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.

After a lengthy investigation, the NFL ruled that the Patriots had used a deflated football and came down hard on the team and Brady. The Patriots quarterback was handed a four-game suspension, while the team was stripped two draft picks and fined $1 million.

But based on the NFL's statement, it doesn't seem as if the Steelers will face any sort of repercussions for the defective football and can put this short-lived issue behind them.
