With Ben Roethlisberger now retired, the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for life after Big Ben. The Steelers signed Mitchell Trubisky signed a two-year deal with the team back in March and they still have Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, but none of those guys are likely going to be the franchise icon that Roethlisberger turned out to be. If Pittsburgh is looking for one, it could turn to the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft where Desmond Ridder is among the best quarterback options.
Ridder, who played college ball with the Cincinnati Bearcats program that reached the College Football Playoff in the 2021 NCAA season, is set to visit the Steelers this Thursday, according to Aditi Kinkhabwala of the NFL Network.
Article Continues BelowDesmond Ridder, the @GoBearcatsFB QB who was initially discovered by now @Bengals HC Zac Taylor, is visiting the #Steelers today in Pittsburgh. HC Mike Tomlin, GM Kevin Colbert, OC Matt Canada and QB coach Mike Sullivan were all at Ridder’s Pro Day. (So was I!)
Ridder is ripe for the pros, having played four years in college. He is also third all-time in wins among quarterbacks in college football, which says a lot about his potential. Ridder's maturity could help him establish himself right away in the NFL. If he lands with the Steelers, who own the 20th pick overall, it might take him long to overtake Trubisky and company to become the team's starter.
