The Baltimore Ravens managed to shore up some depth with the addition of quarterback Robert Griffin III. Needless to say, there has been plenty of talk regarding Griffin's return to the NFL.

Griffin was once one of the most promising, young quarterbacks in the league before a rash of injuries forced his brief hiatus. Many speculate that this was the result of wear and tear that comes with being a running quarterback.

However, Griffin feels that he has had enough time to better decipher when to either run or slide, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN:

“It just means that when I do run, I’ll be smarter about it,” Griffin said. “I’ll slide earlier, get out of bounds when I have to, and when it’s time to run for 70 [yards], I’ll run for 70. It just is what it is. That’s what I more so learned by watching over the years. I’m excited about that.”

Griffin added that he has been able to adjust his skill set to better suit the tempo of today's passing game.

“I feel like I’ve been able to get a better grasp of how to play the game in the NFL, what coaches are looking for,” Griffin said. “I think that’s a benefit, whereas in 2012 when I came in, it was more so learning everything on the fly and just going out and playing. Now I feel like I have to ability to go out and play and also know what I’m doing, be able to protect myself better, get the ball to the guys that need to get the ball and help a team win.”

Griffin kickstarted his career by taking home Offensive Rookie of the Year honors while leading the Washington Redskins to the playoffs. Unfortunately, his season ended with a number of severe knee injuries that required surgery in the offseason. Things would only get worse for Griffin as it was not long before he was eventually out of the league.

Regardless, it is clear that he does not intend to stop running the ball whenever he can, and for good reason. Griffin's versatile skill set is what helped him achieve tremendous success in the first place and will likely be the catalyst for any employment opportunities beyond the 2018 season. However, it seems he is finally ready to be much more contentious of taking the slide rather than gaining a few extra yards.
