Since inking a five-year, $126.5 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers, it has put quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as the centerpiece of the franchise. This has essentially given him the keys to the future being the cornerstone player that the 49ers are hoping to build around.

With that in mind, Garoppolo has already made an effort to hold some private throwing sessions with his teammates to start getting acquainted with each other. It is something that he is hoping allows him to connect with the receivers at a different level than it would be during a practice or workout session, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.

“It’s just something that I like to do,” Garoppolo said. “It kind of gets us away from the coaches and everything and allows me to talk to the receivers about specific things, or the tight ends or running backs. We try to get everyone out there that we can. I understand people have things that they have to get to. … Just to be on the same page with those guys, talking through route concepts and how they see it versus how I see it, it just gets us on the same page.”

Garoppolo has the weight of the franchise on his shoulders, which is a tremendous responsibility moving forward in his career. This is the first real opportunity for him to take advantage of the extra time he has right now to build some necessary chemistry with his receivers ahead of training camp.

It is some valuable experience that he can work through that will provide him a deeper connection with his teammates that could help translate to success on the field next season and beyond. This type of relationship will be imperative to helping build a formidable passing game that can grow off of last year's success down the stretch of the regular season.

The fact that Garoppolo has already taken this approach is a telling sign of his commitment toward building something special in San Francisco that could bring the franchise back to relevancy in the NFL.
