All offseason, there was conjecture that San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel was going to be traded. He had requested a trade and was reportedly unhappy with how the franchise was using him last season in a tailback role. Samuel also wants a new contract that pays him for among the league leaders at his position. However, in recent weeks, things have seemed to cool off a bit on that front.

On Tuesday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the media with where things currently stand with the All-Pro wide receiver.

“I think it's always been all right… I know we go through the business part of this league and things like that. But I don’t think the relationship was ever too far away to not get it back to normal. And I think we’re working on that. Anytime you’re away from each other for a while, that’s always harder. But it’s good to get him back in here and start getting him around the guys again.”

The 49ers mandator minicamp opened this week and Samuel has been in attendance. That's surely a sigh of relief to 49ers fans everywhere.

The 49ers coach went on to detail how he does not put stock into what people post on social media. What matters to him is what is said between the two men. Certainly, Shanahan believes that the two sides can still get a deal done. The fact that the 49ers drafted a running back should put Samuel's mind at ease a bit. San Francisco now has three tailbacks drafted over the last two seasons.

It would make sense that San Francisco is pointing to that fact in negotiations. The 49ers might not need Samuel at running back like they did last year.
