After watching J.J. Watt make his mark on the Houston Texans' win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Kwon Alexander is also in-line to make a miraculous recovery.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Alexander has made progress in his recovery from a pectoral tear that he suffered on Halloween, so much so that the 49ers believe that he has a good chance to play in the NFC divisional round playoff game next Sunday.
Alexander suffered a torn pectoral four days after Watt did the same. Now, he's trying to emulate the three-time Defensive Player of the Year in defying all expectations to make a season-ending injury into one that only takes him out two months.
“I talked to him and I'm happy to see him back,” Alexander said of Watt, via the team's official website. “I can't wait to see him play on Saturday. He lifted me up too a little bit. So I appreciate him.”
Alexander joined the 49ers in practice on Thursday. He says he has been in-contact with Watt to get pointers on the recovery.
“I got his phone number from a teammate just to get in contact with him and see what he's been doing and stuff like that. You see that he's back and he's been doing well.”
A 2017 Pro Bowler, Alexander signed a four-year, $54 million contract with the 49ers in March. The 25-year-old linebacker tallied 34 combined tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in eight games before he suffered the injury.
