If San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman prediction is right, the start of the 2021 NFL season could be delayed a bit. Sherman, in an interview with the Associated Press, said to expect an NFL lockout, and he doesn't see a way where a lockout doesn't happen.

“It’s going to happen, so it’s not like guys are guessing,” Sherman said to the Associated Press.

Sherman is one of the 11 members on the NFL Players’ Association’s Executive Committee and has been very involved in issues that have to do with the CBA and the union.

In 2011, the players were locked out by the owners, and there seems to be a lot of topics that are going to need to be decided between the two sides. There has been the national anthem controversy, some wanting an 18 game season and issues over the franchise tag, to name a few.

For there to not be an NFL lockout, a new CBA would need to be agreed upon before the current CBA expires. That is something that Sherman doesn't see happening because of all the issues that need to be agreed upon.

“We don’t plan on changing anything about the deal we currently have right now,” Sherman said. “I don’t think it’s going to be negotiated before the end of the CBA.”

If there were a lockout, the two sides would try to come together and work out a deal but if one side doesn't like where the discussions are going, regular season games could be missed.
