The San Francisco 49ers are expected to sign safety Antone Exum when they place defensive end Kentavius Street on injured reserve, The Athletic's Matt Barrows reports.
The 49ers cut Exum as part of their quest to trim down to 53-men on their roster on Saturday.
Exum, 28, is now entering his third season with San Francisco. In 2018, he played in 15 games, starting seven, and recorded 40 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, seven pass deflection, and one interception. He has the versatility to play either free or strong safety. Before the 49ers, he played two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

Tarvarius Moore is slated to start at free safety in his second year while Jacquiski Tartt continues to take reigns of the strong safety position. The 49ers could make a play for another safety considering their lack of depth.
Street, a second-year defensive end, hasn't yet logged any regular-season snaps with the 49ers. In his rookie year, he battled a knee injury that left him out for the entirety of the season. As a sophomore, the former N.C. State Wolfpack member is yet again struggling with knee issues and will be on the injured reserve.
