If we are to believe earlier reports, the San Francisco 49ers are widely expected to snag Mac Jones as the third overall pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft. Then again, this does not appear to be a foregone conclusion right now, with the Niners reportedly also showing a lot of interest in Justin Fields.

This report comes via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network:

The Niners have already had a long and hard look at Jones, and now they are turning their attention on Fields. This does not mean, however, that San Francisco was not happy with what they saw from the former Alabama standout. As it is, it appears that they are just doing their due diligence on Fields — a move that is only logical considering the position this team is in right now.

What is clear here is that the Niners intend to use their high pick in adding a young player that they hope will develop into their quarterback of the future. With the wide array of talent available in the QB post in this year's draft class, now would be the perfect time to do so. This is applicable not only for the 49ers but for a handful of other teams as well that are also looking to add their future cornerstone superstar via the draft.
