The San Francisco 49ers were forced to make the trek to Arizona due to COVID-19 restrictions in Santa Clara County, giving them a new place to call home for a few weeks. Despite the original expectation of having to stay in Arizona for a few weeks, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers will play their Week 17 home game against the Seattle Seahawks in the Arizona Cardinals' home stadium.

Last month, with COVID-19 having a rise in cases around the country, there were certain counties in California that enforced strict restrictions. Among the protocols certain counties, Santa Clara County banned contact sports, prompting the 49ers to find a new place to conduct their home games.

After considering their options, San Francisco landed upon the opportunity to play their home games at the Cardinals' home stadium until further notice. However, it appears that the 49ers will conclude their season in their division rival's venue.

Seeing that it would be too much to ask for players to make the daily trip to Arizona, everyone on San Francisco's roster traveled to Arizona to set up shop. Players and coaches may not have a chance to be with their families during the holidays due to them being in Arizona right now.

When the 49ers originally configured the idea to move to Arizona temporarily, they were hoping to be able to return to San Francisco before the end of the season. Unfortunately, due to the county's ongoing restrictions, they'll have to host the Seahawks away from home in Week 17.
