New Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been a starter since coming into the league in 2012 and transitioning to the backup role behind Marcus Mariota has been a challenge. As tough as it's been Tannehill is enjoying working with Mariota and the rest of the staff which has made it easier.

“It’s definitely a transition for me, definitely tough at times,” Tannehill said of sliding into a back-up role via Jim Wyatt of the team's website. “But Marcus is great to work with, the staff here, the quarterback room is really great. So when you work with great people, and you are all aligned and in this thing together, trying to win football games, it definitely helps with that transition. I am just trying to take it day by day, get better each and every day. … I am excited to be here and help this team win.”

This is an interesting situation for Tannehill because although he is the backup now it's unclear what exactly the team's long term plans are. Mariota is entering the final year of his contract and he hasn't been offered a long term extension.

Are the Titans trying to get a look at Tannehill to decide if maybe he could be the long term option for them at quarterback?

It's been made clear that Mariota is the starter for this year and Tannehill is accepting that. If he works hard and does the right things during every practice his chance should come at some time. It might not be with the Titans and it might take a while but it will come.
