Prior to the trade deadline last week, the Oakland Raiders made the surprise decision to move former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a first-round pick.

According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, this was an asking price that the Tennessee Titans were willing to meet in order to acquire Cooper.

Sources indicate the Titans were willing to meet the Raiders asking price of a first round pick for Cooper but wanted to flip draft positions with Oakland on the second day of the draft to soften the blow. The Cowboys were willing to trade a first round pick with no other conditions and acquired the receiver on Oct. 22, hours after a tough loss to division-leading Washington.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise given that the Titans were also reportedly in on acquiring former Pro Bowl wideout Demaryius Thomas before he was traded to the Houston Texans. Tennessee has a huge need to upgrade at the wide receiver position outside of second-year wide receiver Corey Davis. It has been one of the areas on the roster that hasn't had any significant standout play.

Meanwhile, the decision by the Raiders to go with the Cowboys instead may simply lie with the fact that they are in the NFC and not in the AFC. This would eliminate the chance of having to face Amari Cooper more in the playoffs or regular season. It's not sound reasoning by any means, but it at least brings some explanation toward going with one team's offer over another.

The Titans are now moving forward with their young group of wide receivers for at least through the rest of this season with a chance to get back to the .500 mark on the road against the Cowboys on Monday night.
