Through the first few days of the free agency period, the Houston Texans have worked toward acquiring a couple of key free agents on the open market. The team still possesses a plethora of salary cap space to make additions to the roster
There yet to be any signing of note on the offensive side of the ball in free agency. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Texans have added another veteran wide receiver claiming Sammie Coates off waivers.

The 24-year-old had spent the 2017 season with the Cleveland Browns where he was sparsely used recording just six catches on 11 targets for 70 receiving yards in only 12 games played. Coates had hoped the change of scenery could result in a productive campaign, but it shadow of his 2016 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he had 21 catches on 49 targets for 435 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Article Continues BelowAlthough Coates hasn't shown that he can excel in an expanded role, he has certainly demonstrated that he possesses big-play ability on the field. During his best campaign in 2016, he had seven receptions for 20 or more yards with six being for 40 or more yards while averaging 20.7 yards per catch.
His addition to the Texans should provide them more depth at the wide receiver position, which is what they have lacked for much of the last few seasons behind Pro Bowl wideout DeAndre Hopkins. The emergence of quarterback Deshaun Watson has helped elevate the play of the receivers, but Will Fuller and Stephen Anderson have struggled to breakthrough to step up as a defined second option.
Houston currently possesses more than $47.3 million in salary cap space, which is sixth-highest total in the league. There are still a few intriguing free-agent wide receivers left on the market with the likes of Terrelle Pryor, Jordan Matthews, and Mike Wallace. There could several more moves ahead for the Texans in free agency to continue to improve their roster.
