The Tennessee Titans made quick work of their head coaching search by hiring former Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel. While Vrabel was undoubtedly one of the biggest names on the market this offseason, there is still speculation as to how much he can help the Titans improve moving forward.
This will be his first stint as an NFL head coach. However, Peter King of Sports Illustrated (via TitansOnline) referred to Mike Vrabel as the defensive equivalent to Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay:
Many criticized the Rams' front office for making McVay the youngest head coach in NFL history at age 30. Like Vrabel, McVay had briefly been named coordinator before getting his shot in Los Angeles. Needless to say, it paid huge dividends for the Rams as they transformed into the highest-scoring offense in the league in 2017 NFL season. He is also now a prime candidate to win Coach of the Year.
Tennessee is hoping they found their very own McVay in Mike Vrabel. But while Vrabel has the potential to take their defense to another level like McVay did with the Rams offense, Vrabel also needs to find a way to solve the Titans' offense problems and get franchise quarterback Marcus Mariota back on track following a down year.
