A Central Division rivalry matchup is taking place tonight between two potential playoff teams as the Dallas Stars head into Nashville to take on the Predators. Just one point currently separates these two teams in the standings, with both trying to pass the third-place Minnesota Wild. The Stars are on a four-game win streak and are 7-2-1 in their last 10, while the Predators are just 3-6-0 since the All-Star break, but are coming off an 8-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Stars-Predators prediction and pick.

Why The Stars Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Stars are wrapping up a three-game road trip in Nashville tonight as they will look to lean on sophomore Jason Robertson, who was just named NHL's first star of the week after posting back-to-back hat tricks and scoring two game-winning goals within that time. The Stars are still in the bottom half of the league, offensively, making them a playoff bubble team at best, on paper. However, the defense starts at goaltending, and starter Jake Oettinger will look to get another start between the pipes tonight. He's started eight of the Stars' last nine games, but rightfully so as he has a .922 save percentage and allows 2.30 goals-against per game.

Why The Predators Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Nashville Predators have slowly started to come back to earth as they've had some struggles lately, particularly on offense, as they score, on average, 3.13 goals per game while their power play is connecting at a respectable 24.1 percent of the time. The Predators have been relying on their goaltending, which is understandable since their starter, Juuse Saros, is one of the best netminders in the league right now. He's in the running for the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender and continues to stand on his head for the Predators. Saros is averaging 2.44 goals against with a 9.23 save percentage. The Preds are a very physical team, leading the league in fighting majors and total penalty minutes. But they'll look to lean on their defense and look to get another win tonight to keep them in the wild card race for playoffs.

Final Stars-Predators Prediction & Pick

This game will be the fourth and final meeting between these two in the regular season. This game is going to be kept close and possibly be taken to extra time. I'll be honest, anything can happen in this matchup and typically I'd probably stay away from it, but I love the odds here. The Stars are on a four-game winning streak and have all the momentum in the world right now, and while I believe that they can stay alive and make playoffs later down the road, I can't pass up an opportunity for Nashville to have very nice odds at -134. Give me the Predators Moneyline, I think they get the job done on home ice tonight and pull away from the Stars in the playoff race, giving themselves a little bit of a cushion.
