This is a series that has a pretty big tendency of home-ice advantage wins as the New York Rangers are hosting tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Canes are now 0-5 on the road this postseason and are up 3-2 in this series. A win tonight would win them the series and show that maybe they really can compete for the cup this year. Can the Rangers pull off another home win tonight? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Hurricanes-Rangers prediction and pick.

Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Carolina Hurricanes have a lot of depth on their team, which has helped them get this far in the playoffs but don't have that superstar player that everyone will be talking about. They also can't win on the road, as it has shown through five games now. If the Canes want to be real contenders for the cup this season, they're going to have to win games away from their home ice. With that said, the Canes have been good at generating play and controlling the puck in this series, all without being able to find the back of the net consistently enough. Starting goaltender for the Canes will once again be Antti Raanta, at least until Freddy Andersen comes back to full health. Raanta has had a fantastic postseason so far with a .931 save percentage as he has taken on the reins as the starting job for now.

Why The Rangers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Rangers also like to spread the puck around and not focus on just one superstar. In fact, there are some games where the top players on the Rangers look lost and do not show up to the games. For example, Artemi Panarin is a star player on the Rangers who has done… really nothing throughout this series, let alone the playoffs. Even from just the eye test, he looks like he's in a major slump right now. With that said, the rest of his team keeps the Rangers in it as they're back on home ice tonight.

Superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin is the real story of this Rangers team though, as there's no denying how on par he is with being one of the best goaltenders in the world. He's posting a fantastic .924 save percentage since being pulled in the second game of the first series against the Penguins. They'll look to get a win at home tonight and take it to a game seven.

Final Hurricanes-Rangers Prediction & Pick

First things first, look at the odds for this matchup. The Canes are favored when it comes to the points, but their Moneyline odds are better than the Rangers. This doesn't really make a lot of sense, which tells me the oddsmakers are torn too. Anything can happen in this game and I think the Canes will finally pull off a road victory to close out the series and move on to the next round. I'm going to take advantage of this deal and take the Canes outright tonight.
