Martin Necas' days with the Carolina Hurricanes could soon be over, as his name continues to appear in trade rumors. The volume of speculations around Necas has gotten louder of late as well, especially after NHL insider Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff said it wouldn't surprise him if the Canes send Necas somewhere else within this week, specifically before Game 1 of the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Finals between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers.

“I wouldn't be shocked to see Marty Necas dealt before Game 1 of the Cup Final on Saturday. They have a new GM, and they are also arriving at this inflection point with their roster. ” Seravalli said (h/t NHL Trade Rumors).

At the same time, there is another tune others are singing about Necas that is contrary to what Seravalli said, with Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period saying that the Hurricanes are still letting other teams know that Carolina remains focused on retaining the services of the center.

“Amid the ongoing speculation around Martin Necas, it sounds like Carolina is still telling interested teams that the goal is to sign and keep him, as of this morning,” said Di Marco on X.

There is even a report that up to a total of 12 teams have interest in trading for Necas

“There is a lot of interest in Necas; as I stated on NHL Network on Friday, at least a dozen teams have him on their radar. Some clubs have already reached out and are being told to wait, as Tulsky & Co. want to take a stab at signing him, first,” wrote David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.

The Hurricanes are at a crossroads when it comes to Necas just as they have seen a significant change in their front office. Don Wadell left his post as Hurricanes general manager to work with the Columbus Blue Jackets, opening an opportunity for Eric Tulsky to become Carolina's interim GM. Tulsky will be busy dealing with the Necas situation, one that he can't afford to fumble.

Necas, who signed a two-year deal worth $6 million with the Hurricanes back in 2022, is a pending restricted free agent and could potentially fetch a new deal that will pay him at least $7 million per season, as speculated by Pagnotta. It is also worth noting that Necas is still arbitration available.

Moreover, Necas is said to want a different situation where he could regularly play on the top line. His dad has already gone on the record indicating that he wants his son to be in a different environment. All things considered, a Necas trade could really be imminent and it's just a matter of question about which team will impress the Hurricanes the most with their offer.

The reported number of interested teams in Necas only suggests how great he's been in his NHL career thus far. In the 2023-24 NHL season, Necas, who turned 25 years old last January, had 24 goals and 29 assists. His 53 points was the fourth-most on the team this season.

He comes across as a terrific possession player, as evidenced by the fact that he's posted a 63.6 CF% and 61.8 CF% in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, respectively. Since entering the league in the 2017-18 campaign, Necas has posted a 59.5 CF% and a 100.5 PDO all-time.
