The NHL has announced that the 2023 Winter Classic will be played at Fenway Park between the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins. This will be the 14th version of the NHL's Winter Classic, and the second time it will be held in Boston.
It appears the Penguins will play the Bruins in the 2023 Winter Classic at Fenway Park.
The long-rumored matchup just makes too much sense, given the team’s connection to Fenway Sports Group.

Next year's version will take place at Fenway Park once again, this time on January 2nd. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman previously announced that Fenway Park would be the host venue during the NHL's All-Star Weekend. However, he did not announce the opponent.
The Penguins make a lot of sense as the Bruins opponent. The Penguins are principally owned by the Fenway Sports Group, which also owns Fenway Park and its main tenant, the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball.

The Penguins have played two different NHL Winter Classic games previously. They defeated the Buffalo Sabres in the inaugural event back in 2008, 2-1 in a shootout. They then defeated their division rival Washington Capitals at Heinz Field three years later, 3-1.
Pittsburgh forwards Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and defenseman Kris Letang were all part of the game back in 2008. These two clubs know each other very well, having played high-profile games over the years, including a number of playoff series. Now, they get a chance to take the rivalry outdoors.
