New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin delivered yet another dominant performance in Game 7 against the Carolina Hurricanes. Shesterkin stopped 36 shots in a 6-2 victory, helping the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Finals to set up a date with the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

Now awaiting Shesterkin is a showdown against Lightning star goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, a fellow Russian and the winner of back-to-back Stanley Cups. Both goalies are at the top of their games right now, so this should be a terrific matchup.

After beating the Hurricanes, the Rangers goalie hit Vasilevskiy with some massive praise, per ESPN's Greg Wyshynski:

“He's the best goalie in the world right now. I think it'll be a good battle,” said Shesterkin.

Shesterkin and the Rangers got the better of Vasilevskiy and the Lightning in the regular season, winning all three meetings. The Rangers goaltender stood on his head in those games, earning a .958 save percentage and giving up just four goals total. He also led the NHL by allowing just 2.07 goals against per game overall in the regular season.

However, Vasilevskiy is coming off a ridiculous showing in the last round against the Florida Panthers, who won the Presidents' Trophy and had the best offense in the NHL. The Lightning goalie allowed just three goals in four games against the explosive Panthers, including a shutout in Game 4 to complete the sweep. He racked up a whopping 49 saves in that game.

So, this is certainly going to be a heavyweight “battle” in net between these two Russian stars. Get your popcorn ready.
