The New York Rangers' busy offseason continues. After trading away Alexandar Georgiev, they have signed Jaroslav Halak to be the backup goalie to rising star Igor Shesterkin.

According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, Halak will sign a one-year deal worth $1.55 million to join the up-and-coming Rangers.

The 37-year-old Halak is a two-time winner of the William M. Jennings Trophy, most recently winning in the 2019-20 season. He spent last season with the Vancouver Canucks, posting a save percentage of 90.3 percent in 17 games and previously spent time with the New York Islanders.

Halak should be a reliable option behind Shesterkin, who has emerged as one of the very best goalies in all of the NHL. His Vezina-Trophy-winning season was a huge reason for the Rangers' run to the Eastern Conference Finals. The young squad is deep and has tons of star power thanks to Shesterkin, Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider.

New York traded Georgiev, Shesterkin's backup from last season, to the Stanley Cup-winning Colorado Avalanche for draft picks. Finding a new home for the 26-year-old gives him more of a chance to play and gives New York more draft capital as they look to become true contenders. With a sturdy option secured behind Shesterkin, the Rangers are in good shape.

In addition to Halak, the Rangers agreed to a huge deal with Vincent Trocheck. They now have about $2 million in cap space and have yet to sign Kaapo Kakko, who is a restricted free agent.
