Pokemon Go developers Niantic returns to make another AR game based on a beloved Nintendo franchise. Niantic rose to prominence in 2016 when the Pokemon Go mobile game took the world by storm. The game eventually died out but many still remember the many hours spent searching for Pokemon in the real world. Now, Niantic officially announced that it established a new partnership with Nintendo to develop a whole slew of AR games, starting with one based on the Pikmin franchise. It's an extremely exciting time to be a Nintendo fan.

NIANTIC RETURNS TO NINTENDO AR GAMES

The partnership promises more potential Nintendo AR games in the future. It's a match made in heaven. Nintendo owns numerous beloved-franchises, while Niantic holds the expertise to create enjoyable AR games.  Niantic VP of Product Management, Ken Kawai stressed its company's vision of creating games that promote walking and exercise.

“The app will include gameplay activities to encourage walking and make walking more delightful. This will be the first title created by our Tokyo Studio since it was established in April 2018.”

Naturally, Pokemon Go had people roaming the streets looking for Pokemon and pitstops to collect resources. Several people online joke about the brief moment of peace the game brought to the world when it released. Now, Niantic hopes to bring that magic back to the world with its upcoming Pikmin game.

Niantic promises to announce more details to its fans and prospective players when more information becomes available. The Pikmin franchise serves as the best game series for Niantic to try making AR games. Pikmin games already focus on exploration with the titular tiny Pikmin characters. Naturally, players can expect to deal with a large number of these Pikmin in the upcoming AR game. Hopefully, Niantic announces detailed explanations about the upcoming game soon.
