Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone will have a tough decision ahead of this season, determined to come out with a starting point guard prior to the start of the season. Malone will alternate Emmanuel Mudiay and Jamal Murray to start the preseason during the first three games in hopes to come out to a verdict on who should lead the way for the new-look Nuggets, according to Chris Dempsey of Altitude Sports.
Mudiay, a highly-touted athlete, has shown glimpses of incredible talent, but has failed to show consistency at the point guard position, turning the ball over at a high rate and proving quite inept at spacing the floor due to the lack of outside shooting.
Murray got off to an atrocious start to his rookie season, missing the first 16 field goals of his career before getting back on a groover, as one of the best shooters in the 2016 NBA Draft. Murray went on to notch MVP honors at the Rising Stars game during the All-Star break, railing nine three-pointers in a 36-point barrage, which he capped with 11 assists.
The two point guards are fairly inexperiences, but Murray has proved he can run an offense and shoot it when he needs to, while Mudiay has been streaky at best and struggles from the perimeter and the line, proving only to be a superior athlete.
