Earlier this week, the Denver Nuggets made the decision to part ways with veteran guard Jameer Nelson to make room to bring aboard veteran forward Richard Jefferson on a one-year, $2.3 million deal.
Nelson took to social media on Thursday night to voice his appreciation for his time spent with the Nuggets.
The 35-year-old has spent the 2 1/2 seasons with the Nuggets where he was a source of stability off the bench and a veteran presence in the locker room. Although his playing time was limited by injuries, he had become a source of reliability on the court and a mentor to the younger players on the roster.
It may not take long for Nelson to latch onto to another team as the Brooklyn Nets could arise a landing spot given the season-ending knee injury that Jeremy Lin suffered in the season opener on Wednesday night. He can provide an NBA team with a steady point guard off the bench that can be the primary ball handler of the second unit.
In 13 seasons, Nelson holds career averages of 11.7 points on 43.7 percent shooting from the field and 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 5.2 assists per contest. He is coming off a productive campaign where he averaged 9.2 points on 44.4 percent shooting from the field and 38.8 percent from three-point range along with 5.1 assists in 27.3 minutes per contest in 75 games played with 40 starts.
