Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. has seen his fellow draft class teammates sign big contract extensions this off-season. Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Robert Williams have all signed long-term deals to stay with their current team. But the Nuggets young star isn't worried about that at the moment.

As per the Denver Post, MPJ said this about his potential contract extension.

“It’s a thing that’s on the radar, but, you know, I try to let my agent do his job,” Porter said. “I’m in the loop. I’m talking with my agent, talking with Tim (Connelly, Nuggets president), those guys, but for me, it’s God’s time, and when it’s supposed to happen, it’ll happen. I’m not going to try to rush it. All I’m gonna worry about is getting ready, getting geared up for the season.”

The Nuggets found a lot of success in the last few seasons, and Michael Porter Jr. has been a huge help for them. His scoring prowess (19 points per game last season on 53/44/80 shooting splits) has helped Denver weather the injuries to their stars. Jamal Murray's continued absence due to an ACL injury hurts a little less thanks to Porter Jr.'s presence on the court.

Nuggets fans are counting on the third-year forward to carry the load in Murray's stead and support reigning MVP Nikola Jokic. Already, Porter Jr. looks like he's up to the task. He's already talked about being more like a leader for the team. That's an encouraging sign to see from your young players. Here's to hoping his improvements and Murray's eventual return will finally push the Denver Nuggets to the peak of the NBA.
