Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic knows that they were one defensive stop away from tying their Western Conference Finals series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Unfortunately, a last-minute miscommunication on defense by the young Nuggets opened the slightest of windows for Anthony Davis to convert an incredible buzzer-beating triple and hand Denver their second straight defeat.

Jokic, who was all hands on deck on Denver's last defensive possession, admitted that though they knew where the ball was going in the Lakers' last play, they still couldn't make the stop.

“Either going to be him or LeBron [James to take the last shot], so we kind of knew it. Just happened, a little bit of miscommunication. I think I had a really good contest, to be honest. I think I was right there. As soon as he shot the ball, he shot it really well. Like, I kind of felt it going in,” the Nuggets star said of Anthony Davis' shot, per Real GM.

It was all Nikola Jokic for the Nuggets, as the Serbian tried almost everything to will his team to victory on Sunday. With the team down by eight with just three minutes to go in the game, Jokic went on a personal 9-0 run the next couple of plays to give Denver the lead with just 30 seconds left.

The Joker, who is playing on just his first conference finals, bounced back strong from a lackluster Game 1 performance. He finished with a team-high 30 points, six rebounds and nine assists to put Denver in a position to win it all. However, his efforts were clearly not enough as they now face a deep 2-0 deficit against the hungry Lakers.

Hopefully, Jokic and the Nuggets will be able to communicate better and get the job done as they try to extend the series in Game 3 on Tuesday.
