Denver Nuggets forward Wilson Chandler could be on the move soon. According to a report by Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports, the Nuggets are considering the option of shipping Wilson before the trade deadline lapses for future cap relief purposes.

The Nuggets are a team to watch. Denver could have cap problems next season, so there is some momentum there to make a deal now. Emmanuel Mudiay is available, and Denver would love to get out of the final year of Wilson Chandler’s contract. The Nuggets have interest in Smart, but are among the teams unwilling to meet Boston’s asking price.

Wilson Chandler signed a five-year contract worth $31.7 million with the Nuggets in 2012 before inking a four-year $46.5 million extension deal in 2015. His current contract would expire at the end of this season, but he has a player option for 2018, and if he opted in, the Nuggets are going to have to pay him $12.8 million, which would eat up a significant portion of Denver’ cap space next season.

Chandler has not been contributing much to the Nuggets this season. He is only averaging 8.8 points per game on a poor 41.4 field goal shooting percentage. He is also just knocking down just 32.2 percent of his three-point attempts. If this trend continues, this will be the second time in seven seasons (including 2015-16 which he missed entirely due to injury) that Wilson failed to average in double-digits scoring.

That said, Wilson could still be a nice addition to a title contender given his combination of size, shooting range, and versatility on defense.
