VIDEO: Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic hits second-straight game-winner vs. Timberwolves

Nikola Jokic, Nuggets, Timberwolves

Denver Nuggets All-Star center Nikola Jokic did it again.

After hitting a game-winning jumper against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night, Jokic sunk the Minnesota Timberwolves with a turnaround jumper to give the Nuggets an overtime win in Minnesota.

The Nuggets led for the entirety of the contest and led the Timberwolves by 16 midway through the fourth quarter. But Minnesota embarked on a stunning 16-0 run to tie the game after Karl-Anthony Towns drilled a 3-pointer with 42 seconds remaining.

Both teams played to a standstill for much of the overtime period. Denver took a four-point lead with just under two minutes remaining, but the Timberwolves got a dunk from Josh Okogie to cut the lead to two. After a defensive stop, Robert Covington made a driving layup to tie the game with 26.2 seconds to play.

The Nuggets spread the floor for a pick-and-roll between Jokic and Will Barton, and Jokic got the ball on the wing with Towns sticking to him with tight defense. Jokic dribbled and faked with a half-spin, then dropped a turnaround rainbow on Minnesota’s head to give them the lead and the game.

Jokic finished the contest with 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds in 36 minutes of action. He shot just 1-of-7 from deep and made only two of his last nine field goal attempts, but the last one was all that mattered.

The Serbian big man has seen a slight drop in productivity through the first nine games of the season, and yet his late-game heroics helped Denver improve to 7-2 on the year.
