Denver Nuggets fans showed center Nikola Jokic some love during a home game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Serbian big man was showered with MVP chants as he headed to the free-throw line with just over 54 seconds left and the chance to give the Nuggets a four-point lead.

Jokic ended up making both of the free throws. After a hectic last minute, the Nuggets were able to preserve the lead and maintain their place as the number one team in the conference. “The Joker” had an MVP quality game, scoring 40 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four assists.

Even though he is one of the best players in the game, Jokic probably has a few players to bypass before he can take home the coveted award. James Harden, Kevin Durant, Kahwi Leonard, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are just a few names of many that could be argued to be a “more valuable” player than Jokic.

Regardless, Jokic has put together an impressive season thus far. He is currently averaging a career-high 19.2 points per game, as well as 10.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists. The big man is nearly averaging a triple-double while shooting 50 percent from the field.

These numbers are insane coming from a center, and Jokic will certainly get some attention when it comes to MVP voting. However, he is almost certainly more concentrated on getting his team some solid seeding for the playoffs and knocking off the defending champs.
