Forgive the headline, as Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said a lot of things. To make sure the context is not lost right off the bat, here is exactly what he had to say about JT Barrett and the quarterback situation:

“I see a mentally tough guy,” Meyer said of Barrett, as written by ESPN. “He's got to play better. We've got to play better. We've got to coach better.”

This wasn't Urban Meyer ducking accountability as much as he was trying to be as honest as possible about the current situation. Everyone needs to be better — not exactly a shocking take from a college football coach.

As for this supposedly looming quarterback controversy, Meyer said JT Barrett has the edge over Dwayne Haskins, but isn't against the latter getting some time on the field off the opportunity presented itself.

“Right now, it's not even a question,” the coach said of Barrett's edge over Haskins.

“The term ‘game ready' is used quite often around here,” Meyer said. “Is Dwayne game ready to go help us win a game? If we feel he is, then he'll go in the game. That opportunity has not presented itself.”

Ohio State didn't start the season as it wanted to. An early season loss will do that to any program of this stature, but there is some good news around the corner. No disrespect to Army, but the Knights are next on the docket for the Buckeyes. It is a great chance for Ohio State to get back to its winning ways and build some confidence moving forward.

Time will clearly tell how this season plays out, but the overreaction to people sulking on a quarterback everyone previously loved is laughable. JT Barrett, while not John Elway, is a very good gunslinger.
