Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers are heading to the Stanley Cup Final. McDavid scored the opening goal of a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. The Oilers are headed to their first Stanley Cup Final since 2006 when they lost to the Carolina Hurricanes.

It has been a remarkable run to the Final for Edmonton. And it marks the first time McDavid — one of the best players in the league — has made it to this point. After Game 6, the Oilers superstar provided his immediate reaction while speaking with Sportsnet.

“It feels like a dream honestly,” McDavid told Sportsnet as the Edmonton crowd went wild. “It was a crazy one tonight. Not our best effort, but we hung in there. Found a way to get a win. Everybody played great. We just hung in there.”

The Oilers faced familiar foes on their way to the Stanley Cup Final. In round one, they took on the Los Angeles Kings. This marked the third straight year Edmonton opened their postseason by facing the Kings. And as with the previous matchups, Edmonton won in the end. This time, McDavid and the Oilers needed just five games.

In round two, they took on the Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver won the Pacific Division and beat the Nashville Predators to set up this matchup. It was a very close affair that could have gone either way. But the Oilers took the series in seven games after going down 3-2 in the series.

Connor McDavid and the Oilers are now set to face the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final. Florida defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in round one of the playoffs. In round two, they dispatched the Boston Bruins in six games. On Saturday, they defeated the New York Rangers to win the Eastern Conference.

The Panthers are in the Stanley Cup Final for the second straight season. Last year, they faced the Vegas Golden Knights. In the end, Florida could not cap off their inspirational run with a championship. The Golden Knights dominated Florida in five games to win their first Stanley Cup.
