Oklahoma football has lost the commitment of three-star wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma, who announced his decision to decomit from the program via X (formerly Twitter).

“After careful consideration and reflection, I have made the decision to recommit from the University of Oklahoma. This choice is not made lightly. I’d like to thank OU and the coaching staff for the incredible opportunity given to me.”

Ezukanma’s decision came on the heels of Jeff Lebby’s hiring as the next head coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Lebby served as offensive coordinator for Oklahoma football under Brent Venables from the 2022 campaign to the 2023 regular season.

The hope for Oklahoma football is that no one follows Ezukanma back into the open field of recruitment. At the moment, the Sooners have 27 “hard commits” for the 2024 season per 247 Sports, including a pair of 5-stats, 16 four-stars, and 19 three-stars.

Ezukanma could potentially land next on one of the schools that showed interest in him before committing to the Sooners. Apart from Oklahoma football, he also got offers from the likes of the Arizona Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas &M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, and Miami Hurricanes.

Hailing from Fort Worth Texas, Ezukanma recorded a total of 1,210 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns for Timber Creek.

Amid Ezukanma’s decommitment, the Sooners, virtually out of the race to the College Football Playoff, managed to finish the 2023 college football regular season with a 10-2 overall record and 7-2 slate in conference play.
