The Utah Jazz were in fourth place in the Western Conference standings before center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 and the season was suspended. Shooting guard Donovan Mitchell contracted the virus as well and multiple reports have said the high-flyer is upset with Gobert for how the All-Star big man acted before his positive coronavirus test.

Gobert was reportedly touching a lot of players’ belongings in the Jazz locker room before his shocking diagnosis. His biggest blunder, however, was when he jokingly touched reporters’ mics after a press conference in Utah.

The Jazz might have to trade Gobert this offseason if Mitchell makes it clear to management he doesn't want to play with the two-time Defensive Player of the Year anymore. Utah will likely keep Mitchell, as it has been reported that the team is planning to sign him to an extension in the offseason — whenever it begins.

Aside from addressing the Mitchell-Gobert dynamic, the Jazz also have one more move to consider: re-signing Jordan Clarkson.

Utah acquired Clarkson from the Cleveland Cavaliers in December and he has since proven to be a solid microwave scorer off the bench. The 27-year-old guard averaged 15.6 points in 34 games with the Jazz, shooting 48.2 percent overall and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The scoring guard becomes an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Clarkson had a $13.4 million salary for 2019-20 and Utah should be able to re-sign him under a similar price tag.

The Jazz had one of the worst bench units in the NBA before the campaign was suspended, as they were only getting 31.9 points per game off the bench. That output would drop dramatically if the franchise can't re-sign Clarkson.

In today's NBA, you need multiple players who can score off the dribble, and without the use of a pick. Clarkson can do both at a high-level for the Jazz. He is usually able to score buckets in a hurry once he enters the game since he's going up against reserves and has starter-level talent.

Clarkson, who began his NBA career in Los Angeles, has career averages of 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 445 games with the Los Angeles Lakers, Cavs, and Jazz. His per 36 minutes averages are 19.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.

Utah should not only re-sign Clarkson, but the franchise should also consider giving him more minutes next to Mitchell since his scoring prowess can take a lot of the offensive burden off their All-Star. With Mike Conley struggling in his first season with the Jazz, Utah's offense stalled a lot when Mitchell wasn't going off.

The Jazz have lost to the Houston Rockets in back-to-back postseasons, so they should certainly get as much talent as they can to improve their playoff and title chances. The 2020 offseason could be a big one for Utah, as there are plenty of storylines to look forward to.
