Deep Rock Galactic, the four-player rogue-like featuring likable dwarf miners, will soon have official modding support. According to an update blog post by Ghost Ship Games on Steam, the devs are now hard at work integrating mod support into the game. They detailed a three-tier modding system, which makes mods applicable only in different parts of the Deep Rock Galactic. The devs also shared that they will be using the Mod.io platform to host the mods and implement them in the game.

“We have also developed multiple levels of mod approval categories as a better solution to mods only being available on modded save games profiles.”

There will be three categories for Deep Rock Galactic‘s modding system

The three categories for Deep Rock Galactic‘s mods are as follows:

Sandbox – Every Deep Rock Galactic mod uploaded to Mod.io will have this as its default value. You can use these mods as long as you have a modded save file. This means that you might have to make a new save file apart from your main one to use these. Servers using these mods will be marked, and only players using modded saves can enter these servers.

Approved for Progression – These mods will work on your main save files. However, they can only be used in modded servers, just like in Sandbox. These modded servers, however, will allow both modded saves and non-modded saves to join. However, you can't use these mods in vanilla Deep Rock Galactic servers.

Fully approved – Most quality of life mods will fall under this category, as they mostly don't affect gameplay and progression. Hence, using these mods doesn't require a modded save file, nor will it need you to join modded servers. However, server owners can always choose not to allow modded players to join their servers, in which case you still won't be able to join their servers.

Deep Rock Galactic takes a party of up to four players in mining missions, featuring dwarves with unique weapons and skills. Players are members of a mining company, and every mission requires them to bring back materials from dangerous cave mines full of monsters, spiders, and weird eyes on walls.
