Since the start of the season, Victor Oladipo has been performing at a very high level and is continuing to turn a lot of heads with his impressive play. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has noticed how the Pacers guard runs the show for the team, and even made a hilarious comment about Oladipo during the press conference following the announcement of the city winning the rights to host the 2021 All-Star Game.

The 61-year-old politician and lawyer joked that when he was asked to be present during the festivities, Hogsett thought he was going to have the day off as he has heard that Victor Oladipo is now the “new mayor” in town.

Through 26 games, the 25-year-old shooting guard is having his best season as a pro with impressive averages of 24.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks in 34.0 minutes per game. Many are now considering him as the early favorite to win the Most Improved Player award, as he has made it possible for the Pacers to own a 16-12 record so far.

Although Hogsett was only saying it in jest, his comments show the effect Victor Oladipo has had to the entire city. Before the season started, many did not predict the Pacers, or the former second overall pick, to be this good. If he continues to play this well, he may get the attention of not just the mayor, but the fans and coaches as well on his way to his first All-Star Game appearance.
