The Indiana Pacers were eliminated early in the playoffs, so they are looking at this offseason as an opportunity to improve their roster. They will have Victor Oladipo back at some point next season, but the front office needs to make sure they surround him with enough talent in order for the team to be considered a legitimate contender.
Pacers president Kevin Pritchard will do just that, and he believes that this June's draft will be the first step toward building a contender. Indiana holds the 18th overall pick in this draft. Although the Pacers could use it to select a promising prospect, Pritchard said they are not ruling out the possibility of trading the pick:
Pritchard did not specify if he plans to trade the pick in order to go higher in the draft or if they would include it in a package to acquire someone with star power. One thing is for sure, though, Indiana will try to make a big splash this offseason.
The Pacers were just eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the second consecutive year, a trend they would like to end next season. They already have a couple of pieces that could be a part of the team's future, but they will need to be aggressive to get the players they want this summer via the draft, free agency, or trade.
