The Green Bay Packers could be getting a key member of their defense back for their Week 8 tilt against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

According to Lily Zhao of WFRV, Packers tookie safety Darnell Savage returned to practice on Wednesday and was a full participant.

Savage suffered an ankle injury during Green Bay's Week 5 win over the Dallas Cowboys and has missed the last two games. In the five games he has played this season he has logged 18 tackles and a forced fumble.

Savage, who played his collegiate football at the University of Maryland, was selected by the Packers in the first round (No. 21 overall) of the NFL Draft back in April.

The 22-year-old spent four seasons at Maryland. He received only scarce playing time during his freshman season, totaling 12 tackles. The following year, Savage became a full-time member of the Terrapins' secondary, registering 59 tackles, a sack and an interception.

Savage then posted very similar numbers during his junior campaign, recording 59 tackles, three picks, a fumble recovery, eight passes defended and a defensive touchdown. He capped off his NCAA career by posting 52 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and a defensive score in his senior year.

The Packers' defense has fallen off as of late. The unit has gone from looking the part of an elite group to being ranked 26th in the NFL in yards allowed through seven weeks. However, Green Bay has done a great job of stopping opponents from finishing drives, as they are surrendering 19.9 points per game (ninth).
