There's a good chance that Jaire Alexander takes the field for the Green Bay Packers again this season. Unfortunately for coach Matt LaFleur and company, that sense of optimism won't help the Packers as their top cornerback is sidelined for the next few weeks.
Green Bay on Saturday morning officially placed Alexander on injured reserve, ensuring he'll be out for at least the next three games.
Alexander suffered a right shoulder injury in the third quarter of the Packers' Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Team medical personnel spent the week conferring with LaFleur before deciding a course of action on Alexander's injury, ultimately deciding against surgery that likely would have been season-ending.
Green Bay's first round pick in the 2018 draft, Alexander has since established himself as one of football's best cover men, earning Second Team All-Pro honors last season. Fifth-year veteran Kevin King and rookie Eric Stokes will likely start at cornerback for the Packers in Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Green Bay, 3-1, sits alone at the top of the NFC North.
